The car's still got it

So, much like I wanted to, I got the car above 100. As a matter of fact, I had it to 124 on that drive between Nebraska and Colorado.
I went to the stock car races last night for the 4th of July. It was a good time but I was exhausted from the hiking I did in the morning so I just hung out and didn't provide any help to the team this time.
I have been test driving SUVs lately to replace the Infiniti. It is tough when I bought my car for 37k and these SUVs are in the low 30s. I'm like, this thing sucks compared to my car. That is going to be hard to get past. So far, I have driven: Xterra, Explorer, Forester, Wrangler, Trail Blazer, Touareg, 4Runner, FJ Cruiser, X3, X5.
Based on what I get for the money, the Subarus look to be a pretty good deal. I could get one in the mid 20s. I don't really care for their styling though. Based on what I have driven so far, I am leaning towards the 4dr Wrangler. The Xterra and 4Runner are also on the list, but the 4Runner may be too expensive with the options I desire. I mean if I am going to get rid of my G, I am definitely going to lower my payment and the 4Runner would not be much of a lowering.
Let me know if there is some other 4WD I should drive.

100 mph

I am starting to get an itch. I haven't got my car over 100 since I moved here. I am going to Nebraska this weekend, so I plan on getting it up to 120 just to get it out of my system for another month.
If any cops read this, I will be on HW71 between Ft. Morgan and Kimball, please give me the lane.

F'in cops

So, that road I got a ticket on a couple of weeks ago is a massive speed trap. I haven't got another ticket, but I am definitely annoyed by their presence.
These guys sit at different intersections along this 3 mile road at least 3 days a week. It would be ok if they were visible, but they are hiding behind bushes and fences. Mind you, I am not bitter that I got a ticket, I am bitter about how they go about business.
I think the police should be providing me with a safe commute to work. Instead, they are stalking commuters to run up their revenue. If they want to make it safe and truly slow down traffic, they should patrol; nothing slows down a motorist like seeing a cop driving down the road. Instead, they hide, and when a motorist finally sees them from 100 ft, they jam on their brakes. Is that safe?
So my thoughts: I am not in a hurry to get to work in the morning (I don't drive fast because I am in a hurry, I just drive fast...) so I was thinking of picketing their speed traps. When I drive by them, I am thinking of pulling over, getting a sign out of my trunk that reads "speed trap ahead", walking right by them, and holding a sign up 100 yards in front of them.
I mean for crying out loud, everybody from New Orleans to Kona knows Aurora for its meth problem, not its speeding problem.

Colorado Drivers

WTF. So all of these guys drive like my grandpa Vern, the gas is either on or off.
As soon as they leave the stoplight, they are taking off like a bat out of hell. Then as soon as they get to the posted speed limit, they let off the gas.
If the average car does 0-60 in 8 seconds, people in CO consistently accelerate within a second of this. I know because I am always on the gas pretty hard just to keep up. So that's how I got my ticket, I was accelerating with the other drivers and then when they let off the gas, I just kept going. Since when do cops stand on the corner with their "Laser" gun anyways. He just walked out in the street, pointed at me, and motioned for me to pull over. What a crock.

Swamped

Yeah, so I moved into my apt this last weekend. What a pain in the ass moving is. I was pretty tired by the end of Sunday but I had 4 boxes left to unpack when I was ready to call it quits. I decided just to dump the boxes out on the floor in 4 different piles and deal with the piles throughout this week. I have 1.5 piles left to go...
What else?
Got my first speeding ticket last week, 54 in a 40.
Still sitting at work doing online training at my own pace.
Going to go on my first hike this weekend.

My transformation

I went to a stock car race this weekend. Now I have been to a couple of Nascar races in Fontana, but never a short track race like this.
It was a 3/8 mile oval (of course) and my brother is one of the mechanics/helpers on one of the teams. This meant I got to hang out in the pits and participate in the pit discussions and what not. It was a pretty good time. Our driver was pretty bad ass and our day would have been much better had it not been for bad luck; but that's racing.
I have been pretty lathargic the week I have been here. I think/hope this will turn around once I get my place on Friday.
Wow, I hated the cable company in SD, but I don't think this is going to be much better. I have to get directTV through my apartment complex and since they have a monopoly on the complex, I am supposed to put up with their shit. I don't think that is going to happen. More on this after I give them a call back in the morning.
Running is getting easier here, and I plan on hitting the mountains in 2 weeks. This coming weekend is my move and I hope that I will hit a big mountain the weekend after that.
Then, finally the weekend after that I should make it back to NE. The Mom's is getting disappointed that I haven't come home yet, but damn, I am busy here and don't want to take the 7 hours out of my weekend yet to make that drive...
Lates

First day of work

I had my first day of work today. It was nothing. Training in the morning and computer setup in the afternoon. I was put in a temporary holding area while they process my arrival. I will probably not do anything productive for at least a week.

I am starting to handle the altitude a little better. I went to the gym today and didn't feel that bad. A couple of the nice things about Colorado:
I went to 24 hr fitness from 7:00pm to 8:20pm tonight. The people there said it was busy; I had never been to such an empty gym in San Diego and that was during their peak time.
If you have a half an hour commute here, people think you are crazy, if you have a half an hour commute in San Diego, people think you are lucky.
